Transform Health Through a Fitness Course

Dream it.

Jameson and his brother Rhys loved American Ninja Warrior. They would watch each new episode weekly and marvel at the amazing skill of the athletes. For Jameson’s last Christmas on Earth, he and Rhys were given an entire backyard ninja course. Sadly the unopened boxes were still sitting behind the couch when Jameson passed away.

Grow it.

As friends tried to support the family financially, an idea was quickly created. Instead of using the money for personal things, give it back to the community in the form of a fitness course. The family set up a meeting with the director of the local parks and recreation department who was completely supportive. The process of getting commissioner approval and raising the funds began.

Build it.

On November 12, 2019, the Transylvania County Commissioners unanimously approved the motion to partner with Jameson’s Joy to build a fitness course. On August 24, 2020 the commissioners approved the naming of the park, “Jameson’s Joy Memorial Fitness Park.”

Mission Accomplished

The Jameson’s Joy Memorial Fitness Course, opened on September 4, 2020, was built in partnership with Transylvania County, North Carolina to honor Jameson’s love of the television show “American Ninja Warrior.” This course features 10 obstacles and a 30-yard dash course that allows individuals 5 years old and older to challenge themselves physically and mentally to complete the course.

The Impact

It was known that the fitness course would be fun and help with fitness. But within days of opening the course was making a bigger impact. The following note was sent to us.
”I just wanted to let you know how much we are already enjoying the fitness course. This is something that is not only enjoyable and fun for a child like Olivia but helpful for her continued physical therapy. It is something that means a lot to us because these are physical milestones she can work to reach. We struggle to find things that physically challenge her that will also be fun enough for her to stick to but also keep her interest. From a mother that feels the weight of responsibility when it comes to how much her child is physically able to do, thank you. “

Held on the weekend after Labor Day, the Warrior Challenge is a free community event that allows the Courtine Family and Jameson’s Joy to say thank you to the community for the love and support they give. The event coincides with Jameson’s birthday on September 6 and the anniversary of the park opening on September 4.
